Rahm Emanuel takes over from Leo McGarry

The first big appointment is a done deal. Rahm Emanuel, the Illinois congressman, has accepted Barack's offer to become White House Chief of Staff.

We think it's a good move. If memory serves, Rahm refused to urge Hillary to get out of the race (which now seems good that she did not, as the conventional wisdom is that it helped make Barack a better candidate), so we're hoping that stance helps him work all parts of our side of the aisle.

And besides, when was the last time we had a Chief of Staff who danced ballet?
