Putting on his pants one leg at a time
Looks as though we're officially watching the transition from inspiring to governing. If you needed any real evidence, that press conference was it. Nothing wrong with it (ok, a slight faux pas or deux, we'll chalk it up to nervousness), but it shows the challenge that lies before Barack: how does he take all the aspirations and dreams and audacity of hope that people have loaded him up with and begin grinding out the everyday details of governing without losing the nation's goodwill?
While there's been plenty of discussion about what Barack should do (and undo) first, let's be sure to support whatever priority he chooses and get the message out that it's been carefully considered, not unlike every other step he's taken in the past two years.
And those seemed to have worked out, agreed?

Second-guessing the first appointment - are you serious?
This is the kind of thing this site was created to counteract. The election is less than 48 hours old and we're already second-guessing the president-elect's first appointment.
I used to work at a small company where management would hire salespeople and start sticking their noses into the salespeople's progress right away, rather than giving them some breathing room, letting them do their jobs, and then, after a reasonable period, evaluating their performance. Wouldn't that seem to be the right strategy here as well?
Besides, let's suppose many people agree that Rahm's temperament is not suited to the job of Chief of Staff. So what? Do we expect that Barack is going to change his mind at this point?
Let's give Rahm some breathing room and let him do his job. There will be plenty of time to evaluate his performance—rather than predict his problems—down the road.

Rahm Emanuel takes over from Leo McGarry
The first big appointment is a done deal. Rahm Emanuel, the Illinois congressman, has accepted Barack's offer to become White House Chief of Staff.
We think it's a good move. If memory serves, Rahm refused to urge Hillary to get out of the race (which now seems good that she did not, as the conventional wisdom is that it helped make Barack a better candidate), so we're hoping that stance helps him work all parts of our side of the aisle.
And besides, when was the last time we had a Chief of Staff who danced ballet?

You are here
Now that the campaign has ended and victory secured, comes the hard part...governing. Those of us who backed Barack Obama (a shoo-in for Time's Person of the Year, don't you think?) for president have an obligation to back his administration as well. We don't mean blindly agreeing with everything, but doing what we can to highlight the positive aspects of his initiatives, influence opinion, and move his agenda forward.
That's what we signed up for when we checked the Obama-Biden box, right?
In that light, we've created this site to rally support for our new president's efforts, from appointing staff to getting legislation passed (although probably not choosing the First Puppy).
So, what say you? Are you willing to jump into the fray and help President Obama achieve what he could only promise during the campaign?
If so, check back here often and see how the site evolves. We're sure it'll take us places we never anticipated.
